Inside Ekas Bay, located on Lombok’s scenic southeast coast, is one of the island’s most playful and approachable reef breaks. Offering both left and right-hand waves that break over a deep coral shelf, it’s the perfect spot for beginners and intermediates looking to progress safely. With mellow conditions, clean faces, and a relaxed vibe, Inside Ekas delivers pure fun all year round.
Ekas Bay, located on the southeastern coast of Lombok, is a stunning double bay offering a variety of waves with two primary surf breaks of note. Inside Ekas and Outside Ekas.
Ekas Inside is a fantastic wave and is easily one of the most fun waves on the island. It’s a bit slower and fatter, breaking over a very deep reef, making it perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers who
might be a bit unsure. The right is totally slash-able and the left is a bit more fun on a long board. There’s little to worry about here unless the waves are overhead or bigger. The peak breaks out back on the
front of a section of reef and then bowls inward over the edge of the coral shelf, offering multiple take-off zones as it peels right and left into the channel.
Ekas Inside thrives with a pushing tide but not too full. It can still be surfed at low tide, and east winds provide perfect offshore conditions.
Located roughly eight miles east of Kuta Lombok, the region’s largest town and main surf hub, Ekas is typically accessed by boat via the port in Awang town.
Inside Ekas FAQ
Yes, it is one of the safest reef breaks in Lombok! The wave breaks over a very deep reef, minimizing the risk of hitting the bottom. It is the perfect playground for those learning or transitioning from white water to green waves.
Because the wave is generally slower and mellower (“fat”), it is heaven for longboards, funboards, or high-volume fishes. Intermediates on shortboards can also have fun hacking the right-hander.
Access is almost exclusively by boat. You need to drive to the port of Awang (about 30-40 minutes from Kuta) and hire a local boat, which will take you to the break in about 15 minutes.
It works well year-round but thrives with a pushing tide (rising tide) and East winds (offshore). It can be surfed at low tide, but the wave shape improves significantly as the bay fills up.
It is an A-Frame, meaning it breaks in both directions. You get a slash-able right-hander and a left that is often a bit longer and great for cruising.
