Here at LMBK Surf Camp we cater to all surf levels so rest assured we can fire up your stoke!
Whether it’s standing up for the first time, doing your first top turn or tucking in to the barrel, we’ve got you covered with our Surf and Stay Package.
Here’s what you can expect in a week of surf lessons with us depending on your surf level :
Beginner Surfer
Welcome to your new obsession! As Kelly Slater put it “it’s like the mafia. Once you’re in, you’re in. There’s no getting out.” Not that we would ever want out anyway.
As a beginner surfer, first we need to cover some basics.
We start by teaching you how to pop up and the correct body positioning on your board.
We’ll practice this on land first so you can get the hang of it. Then our experienced instructors will push you into some smaller waves, which allows you to practice your pop up in the water and get used to balancing on your board.
Once you are feeling confident with that, we start focusing on your paddling technique and surfing left or right so you can ride down an unbroken wave. Trust us, once you experience it, you’ll be hooked!
The next thing you need to learn as a beginner surfer is surf etiquette.
While you’ll have our experienced surf guides letting you know when it’s safe to go, it’s important that you understand how right of way works in waves so you can continue your surf journey safely.
As you’ll soon discover, surfers have their own language and it can be a little bit confusing at first, but don’t worry, we’ll guide you through it.
Intermediate Surfer
If you’re an intermediate surfer looking to advance your wave riding abilities, you’ve come to the right place.
People classify intermediate surfers differently depending on who you are talking to.
Generally, an intermediate surfer is considered as someone who understands the basics of paddling, popping up and can ride cleanly across the open face of a wave.
There are two main things we focus on as intermediate surfers.
The first is turning.
We all love gliding along a wave, but turning allows you to get the most out of your rides.
The number one rule of surfing is you look where you want to go, and your body will do a lot of the work for you.
This, along with speed generation and weight distribution will help you start to develop some of the key turns in surfing – the bottom turn, top turn and cut back.
Our photo analysis will then allow us to assess body positioning to develop your turns further.
The second focus is reading the waves.
Knowing where to take off, when to paddle and what direction to paddle in will make your surf sessions that much more efficient as you are not wasting time paddling for waves you can’t get in position for.
Waves are complicated things, with no two waves the same.
The ability to read the ocean comes with exposure to waves and lots of time spent in the water.
However, having an experienced surfer break this down for you goes a long way.
There are some key things to understand that allows you to progress your surfing.
How to identify the peak of a wave, determining whether a waves is a left or a right and understanding how elements such as wind and swell direction impact waves.
We want to send you back home with all the tools to implement your new knowledge to your own surfing journey.
Advanced Surfer
Don’t worry, we don’t just cater to beginner and intermediate surfers.
We love accommodating advanced surfers and it’s a good chance for our beginner surfers to see what’s possible.
You’ve likely been surfing for a while and know your way around a wave.
So, we focus on small body cues that will allow you to push your turns that one step further.
Whether it’s throwing some serious spray in your snap or tucking in to a barrel, we can provide you with personalised advice.
Our photo analysis will allow you to observe exactly how you move your body, which is difficult to assess when you’re actually doing it.
Small adjustments like your shoulder angle on a steep drop or foot positioning on your board can make the world of difference to your surfing. Plus, you get a few rad shots to take home with you!
Here at LMBK, nothing gets us more stoked than helping our guests get the most out of their surf experience no matter what your level is.
